10. Objectives
  • It had three objectives.
    • One was to revitalize the markets that were damaged during ethnic violence so that vegetable growers will find marketing facilities.
    • The other was to bring in integration among the Sinhalese traders from Uhana and Tamil and Muslim traders from Central Camp so as to restore the mindset of coexistence that existed before the onset of communal violence.
    • Invite traders associations from the adjoining town like Kalmunai and Ampara so that a wholesale sale outlet for the farm products could be organized.
    • Markets are to be run on a ‘fair’basis, that is, market will function only a day in a week – on Saturdays at Uhana and on Thursdays at Central Camp.
